Zakłady Mechaniczne „BUMAR-ŁABĘDY” S.A. („BUMAR-ŁABĘDY” Machine-Building Plant Inc.) is celebrating 70th anniversary of founding
2019
A consortium of PGZ S.A., together with Zakłady Mechaniczne "BUMAR-ŁABĘDY" S.A., which is part of the PGZ Group, and Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne S.A. concluded an agreement with the 1st Regional Logistic Base in Wałcz on 22 July 2019 for the overhaul of T-72 tanks with their modification.

2015
In December 2015, a contract was signed between the Armament Inspectorate and Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A. and its constituent Zakłady Mechaniczne "BUMAR-ŁABĘDY" S.A. for the modernisation of Leopard 2A4 tanks to the Leopard 2PL version.

ZPS „Bumar-Łabędy” was re-incorporated to „Bumar-Łabędy” Machine-Building Plant in Gliwice.

Out of „Bumar-Łabędy” Machine-Building Plant a Special Production Plant „Bumar-Łabędy” (ZPS „Bumar-Łabędy”) was separated, dedicated exclusively to production of combat vehicles.

At the beginning of 1990s the enterprise had to go through a very difficult period associated with economical transformations after the collapse of the communist system.
On July 1, 1993 the plant was commercialised; the conglomerate became a joint-stock company named Zakłady Mechaniczne „BUMAR-ŁABĘDY” S.A. (“Bumar Łabędy” Machine-Building Plant Inc.) in Gliwice.

In September 1977, a license agreement was signed for the production of T-72M tanks.

By the decision of Minister of Machine Industry the “Kombinat Urządzeń Mechanicznych BUMAR-ŁABĘDY (BUMAR ŁABĘDY Conglomerate of Mechanical Equipment)” was established.
To the conglomerate over a dozen of enterprises from all over Poland were incorporated, with „Łabędy” Machine-Building Plant as a leader.

Beginning of design works of armoured recovery vehicles WZT-1, and shortly afterwards - WZT-2 and WZT-3 in Łabędy.

The Governments of Poland and Soviet Union decided to assign manufacturing of the ATS-59 artillery tractor to Łabędy plant.

After the “Polish October” the company name was changed to “Zakłady Mechaniczne (Machine-Building Plant) in Łabędy”.
Armoured equipment was the principal product of the plant. In 1951-1956 a licence T-34/85 model tank was manufactured here, T-54 - until 1964, and then T-55A.

The date of April 20, 1951 is officially considered as the beginning of “Łabędy” Machine-Building Plant existence.
Then, by the ordinance of the Minister of Heavy Industry, Zakłady Mechaniczne „Łabędy” („Łabędy” Machine-Building Plant) in Łabędy was established. The main task of the plant was to be manufacturing of heavy tracked vehicles.

Huta Łabędy (Łabędy Steelwork) was divided into two parts: the steel-making one with a steelwork and rolling mill and the mechanical one with the Investment/Repair Plant as the nucleus of a new enterprise.

In the 1950s the Plant was also manufacturing goods for civil market.
At the end only production of tracked tractors and excavators for civil customers was continued, but the scope of production was extended by bread slicers, chandeliers, hammers, vices, washing machines etc. Cladding of the Polish scooter Osa was also made there. At the end of 1950s in “Łabędy” Machine-Building Plant the construction process of Mazur D-350 tracked artillery tractor was prepared and implemented.

At that time were manufactured spans of Poniatowski and Śląsko-Dąbrowski bridges for Warsaw, the Raszyn radio broadcast mast and the famous steel spire designed by prof. Stanisław Hempel, today located in front of the Wrocław Centennial Hall.

Establishment of Huta Łabędy (Łabędy Steelwork), incorporated into Gliwickie Zjednoczenie Hutnicze (Gliwice Steel Association).

By the order of soviet military authorities a part of the plant machines and equipment was disassembled and shipped to Dneprospetsstal Plant on Zaporozhye (ZSRR) as spoils of war.
